As a former teacher, business owner, and school board member Jonathan has been active in ongoing efforts to improve education for over 30 years. He is a strong proponent of student-centered education and believes that every student has the potential to be successful. He feels that it is the primary job of our educational institutions to find ways to unlock this potential.
Jonathan has a broad level of experience in the education field. As a business owner he was a member of the Springfield Education Foundation, Springfield Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, Lane Community College Business Advisory Council, and Springfield School District’s Long-Range Planning Committee and District Budget Committee. He was elected to the Springfield School Board in 2001 and served for 15 years.
Jonathan was a teacher for 15 years, the last four as a Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) in the Springfield School District. His TOSA responsibilities included after-school grant administration, Career and Technical Education (CTE) coordination, and performing arts support. Jonathan retired in 2020. Prior to his tenure in Springfield, he taught K-12 music for 11 years in the Pleasant Hill School District.
Jonathan has thoroughly enjoyed working with students, parents, educators, and community leaders throughout his career. He believes there is still much work to be done to make sure that all students graduate, prepared for a bright and successful future.
